"god cannot be sold as a sack of potatoes" said Guru RHH,
who always had some outside income and never lived off his disciples (and he could have)
If one believes it and puts himself out at the benevolence of the Cosmos, he/she somehow will be taken care of. His/her needs will be met, but perhaps not his/her wants..... :)

Not to be flippant, but why should anyone rely on a guru? And why should a guru have to rely on us? Especially those who come out of the woodwork? Can't people gain spiritual awareness from, say, reading blogs like this, studying the masters from long ago and listening to the tried-and-true such as the Dalai Lama and leave the so-called gurus to make their own best way? My attitude comes from my experiences, of course. I am disillusioned by folks who want to be spiritual leaders. I am talking here about Christianity in particular because in my town you just don't run into a lot of Jiddu Krishnamurtis.
